The design process and fabrication of the Curitiba Y-Table was in collaboration with the Industrial Design faculty and students of the Universidade Tecnológica Federal de Paraná. Luisiana Paganelli, our local coordinator, put us in contact with Prof. Eloy Casagrande and Prof. Jusméri Medeiros who in turn organized and donated the use of the university's Prototyping and Fabrication Laboratory. In collaboration with the Lab's coordinator Francisco and their students, we produced the Curitiba Y-Table within four arduous days. While in the Laboratory, we made use of their Brazilian-made, large format CNC router, and of the wide array of tools to work with most materials. In the end, the Y-Table maintained a consistent use of locally produced and found/upcycled materials, such as Tetrapak, OSB, recovered PVC tubing, steel and aluminum rods, and pine lumber. Ultimately, the result was presented and implemented in the 2-day Workshop at Curitiba's Goethe Institute, and the Y-Table will then be transported back to the UTFPR's fabrication laboratory where it will be cared for and used by the students for Prof. Medeiros industrial design courses.
