Club culture is a global phenomenon, but what music are these people dancing to in these cities and what music did they use to dance to in the past? In what sort of spaces do they meet up? What public spheres do they form? What do these club cultures mean to the urbanity of a city? And what happens when the club music from two different continents meet head on? More...

Dirty Paraffin started out as a performance art outt but they got sucked into recording music wholeheartedly when they realized that recorded work lasts forever. They offered the Greatest Hits mixtape vol.1 in 2009, a remix fest of their favorite music from the likes of Chicco to Kraftwerk. The world's jaw dropped when that came out, but Dirty Paraffin went back to school to study arts of making it BIG. Both members, Okmalumkoolkat and Dokta SpiZee have acquired doctorates in the art of being a successful independent band. They also have a clear vision now. They release music they feel the world needs in the now, forge new genres and ways of making music, starting with the Primustof genre. The six track DP EP that have just dropped is the first cut in in that spiritual path. The response has been well so far, the future looks sunny.

Dirty Paraffin & TEN CITIES
Dirty Paraffin participated in the third TEN CITIES episode of musical collaboration, which took the renowned Ukrainian producers Vakula and Dubmasta from Kyiv to Johannesburg in February 2013. Further participants from Johannesburg were Planet Lindela, Moonchild, Tito Pulling Strings and an extended circle of musicians from South Africa. The South Africa phase was curated and facilitated by João Orecchia together with Berlin based producer Hannes Teichmann. In addition, Okmalumkoolkat came to Nairobi in September 2013 to produce and record with Rob Smith (Bristol) and Kenyan artist like DJ Raph, Fena Gitu and more.
