Whether it's in Nairobi or in Kyiv, in Bristol or in Cairo: in all the major cities of Africa and Europe, people get together in dedicated spaces to dance to music and party – and create communities, subcultures and public spheres. Club culture is a global phenomenon, but what music are these people dancing to in these cities and what music did they use to dance to in the past? In what sort of spaces do they meet up? What public spheres do they form? What do these club cultures mean to the urbanity of a city? And what happens when the club music from two different continents meet head on? More...

Octa Push started in the beginning of 2008 when Conspira – one of portuguese pioneers of bass music – challenged these two brothers from Lisbon to join forces and start a live-act project, booking them for a show. They quickly started to make tracks together and developed a fusion of Bashment, UK Garage and Dubstep with other elements like Afrobeat and Techno. In a short space of time their performance took them to places and events like Boom Festival, Optimus Alive, Casa da Musica, Lux (Portugal), Sonar Festival, Sonar Gálicia, Redbull Music Academy (Spain), Fabric, Music Hall, Black Swan, Glade Festival (UK), Amsterdam Dance Event, Zomerparkfeest (Holland) and other clubs and festivals. Released on Soul Jazz Records, Fabric Records, Iberian Records, Steak House, Enchufada and more. Support by the likes of Gilles Peterson (BBC), DJ Sinden (Kiss FM), Buraka Som Sistema and Thom Yorke from Radiohead.

Octa Push & TEN CITIES
The fourth TEN CITIES episode of musical collaboration took the renowned Portugese producers Batida and Octa Push from Lisbon to Nairobi in April 2013, where they produced tracks together with Just A Band, Camp Mulla and Octopizzo among others. The exchange for Nairobi was curated by Just A Band's Bill Sellanga and Berlin based musician Oren Gerlitz who facilitated the production phase.
