Wondering where you have seen the star actors in the crime caper/comedy
The Goldfish we are showing as part of the drive-in ICFF on July 13 before (limited tickets)? We're here to jog your memory:
Berlin-born
Tom Schilling was discovered by East German uber-director
Thomas Heise at age 12 in school and has been smoking his way through Jan-Ole Gerster's hit film
Oh Boy aka A Coffee in Berlin (2012), Before the Fall (2004), and
Who Am I (2014). Quickly hitting the big league, he was the lead in Oscar-nominated Never Look Away (2018)
-- and you will see him again when we show another of his recent films as a Toronto outdoor premiere in August.
Having performed at Bert Brecht's Berliner Ensemble Theatre as a child, he portrayed the 20th century writer in the film Brecht (2019). Next, you will see the busy A-lister in the mind-boggling Sky TV series Me and the Others that I just got a sneak peek of at the Berlinale as well as in Dominik Graf's Berlinale 2021 success Fabian: Going to the Dogs.
Also Berlin-born
Jella Haase quickly became an Internet sensation for her deadpan creation of teenage Chantal in the school comedy series Suck Me Shakespeer/Fack ju Göhte. Not even 30, the erstwhile "European Shooting Star" is now turning out one strong character portrayal after another: You just saw her in our GOETHE FILMS presentation of tough neo-Nazi drama Combat Girls. Last year, she shone as Mieze in Burhan Qurbani's brilliant
Berlin Alexanderplatz and was highly praised for the queer drama Cocoon.
Munich stage and film actress
Birgit Minichmayr can't go wrong, from Maren Ade's Everyone Else to
Emily Atef's 3 Days in Quiberon. Other international credits include Downfall, The White Ribbon, Cherry Blossoms, Cherry Blossoms and Demons, Jack, Perfume, and many more. You will see her next in Philipp Stölzl's
The Royal Game and Nana Neul's
Daughters.
Kida Khodr Ramadan is one of Germany's most sought-after actors and most recognizable on-screen faces, mostly for his lead role in the hard-hitting gangster thriller series 4 Blocks. He appeared in Narcissus and Goldmund, Man from Beirut, Kaddish for A Friend, A Heavy Heart, and my perennial favourite comedy: Kebab Connection, co-written by Fatih Akin. Ramadan has no less than five films coming up: his own directorial effort Égalité, plus Alain Gsponer's Cloud under the Roof, Helena Hufnagel's
Generation Beziehungsunfähig, Hüseyin Tabak & Florian David Fitz' Oskar's Dress and Damir Lukacevic' Wet Dog.
They are joined by up-and-comer
Luisa Wöllisch, who is already a German TV darling.
Catch this diverse group of actors playing together and clearly enjoying themselves in the ensemble piece The Goldfish.
