As we are in the middle of our 4-part series "Shooting Stars" at GOETHE FILMS @ TIFF Bell Lightbox --next screenings January 25+26, watch this space for details--, yet another young German actor has made it onto the European Shootting Stars podium: Anna Maria Mühe (incidentally the daughter of the late Ulrich Mühe of The Lives of Others fame) will be honoured at the upcoming Berlinale. Our partners & friends at German Films in Munich just announced the results of this year's jury selection:
The Berlin International Film Festival will again be hosting the presentation of the young actors who were announced by European Film Promotion (EFP) today as the ten most gifted European acting talents.
Anna Maria Mühe, who can be seen in CRACKS IN THE SHELL (DIE UNSICHTBARE) by Christian Schwochow in German cinemas in February 2012, is one of ten up-and-coming talents who were selected by an expert jury as a SHOOTING STAR 2012 from 23 candidates and will be presented by EFP to the international media during the Berlinale 2012 between February 11 and 13.
Speaking about Anna Maria Mühe, who has attracted attention through such films as NOVEMBER CHILD (NOVEMBERKIND) by Christian Schwochow, BIG GIRLS DON'T CRY (GROSSE MÄDCHEN WEINEN NICHT) by Maria von Heland and IN DER WELT HABT IHR ANGST by Hans W. Geißendörfer, the jury said: “Never predictable despite her already impressive body of work, Mühe is an actress of consummate skill whose ability to bring such a great variety of characters to vivid life is both rare and breath-taking. Vibrant, complex and technically commanding .“
Another reason for celebration is the selection of a further two SHOOTING STARS: Bill Skarsgård (Sweden), who could recently be seen in the Swedish-German co-production SIMON AND THE OAKS by Lisa Ohlin, and Max Hubacher (Switzerland), who appears opposite Katja Riemann in THE FOSTER BOY (DER VERDINGBUB) by Markus Imboden.
Apart from the Oscar-winner Marleen Gorris (director, The Netherlands), the other members of the jury were Thure Lindhardt (actor and former SHOOTING STAR, Denmark), Ada Solomon (producer, Romania), Simone Bär (casting director, Germany) and Matt Mueller (film journalist, UK).
The SHOOTING STARS program is funded by the MEDIA Programme of the EU and the member organisations. German Films is a founding member of European Film Promotion (EFP) which is organising the SHOOTING STAR selection and presentation for the 15th time this year.
