Congratulations! The inaugural
GOETHE REEL AUDIENCE DIRECTOR AWARD
goes to Jeff Dupre for "Kehinde Wiley: An Economy of Grace".
Presented by the Goethe-Institut at the
Reel Artist Film Festival 2014
The Canadian Art Foundation and the Goethe-Institut are happy to announce the winner of The Goethe Reel Audience Director Award (GRADA), the first award presented at the Reel Artists Film Festival.
Initiated and funded by the Goethe-Institut, the GRADA is a "people's choice" award, given to the festival's Best Film & Director as chosen by art lovers who attended the RAFF from February 19-23, 2014 and voted at the TIFF Bell Lightbox.
The prize carries a $3,000 cash award and will be presented to this year's winning director Jeff Dupre at a ceremony in Toronto this spring. The award and cash prize are intended to foster excellence in international filmmaking, generating a furthered interest in the arts and documentaries on visual art and artists.
American filmmaker Jeff Dupre has been producing and directing documentary films for nearly twenty years and celebrated his world premiere at RAFF 2014 with "Kehinde Wiley: An Economy of Grace". Sundance winner Dupre produced and co-directed the Peabody and Emmy Award-winning artist documentary "Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present" and the much-lauded documentary series ”Circus” and “Carrier”, among others.
The Reel Artists Film Festival, now in its 11th year, was established by the Canadian Art Foundation to bring documentaries about art and artists to the Canadian public. As North America's only festival devoted exclusively to documentary films about visual art and artists, the RAFF showcases international feature-length and short documentaries that address challenges and questions raised by artists. The Goethe-Institut, the global German cultural institute, shares this interest in international artistic dialogue and exchange across the genres, evident in their programming focus on film and visual and media arts.
