An international expert jury met in Hamburg to select 10 European actors as the year's best new talents from 27 candidates nominated by EFP member organisations. European Film Promotion will present the SHOOTING STARS to the international film world at the Berlinale (9 – 11 February, 2013).
The German SHOOTING STAR Saskia Rosendahl immediately made an impression with her first leading role as LORE in Cate Shortland's eponymous film (DE/AU/GB, Rohfilm). The jury says about her: “Saskia is able to transform herself and show an incredible range of emotions – without very much dialogue. She is a true natural talent and, with LORE, is making a phenomenal debut performance as she embarks on the transition from a child into a woman.” Saskia Rosendahl could previously be seen in Wolfgang Dinslage's FÜR ELISE (Ostlicht Filmproduktion). This year has already seen the 19-year-old actress complete shooting on another two feature films: the German bestseller adaptation THE TASTE OF APPLE SEEDS (DER GESCHMACK VON APFELKERNEN) by Vivian Naefe and the German-French co-production HAPPY BIRTHDAY (ZUM GEBURTSTAG) by Denis Dercourt. Previous German SHOOTING STARS included Anna Maria Mühe, Alexander Fehling, David Kross, Hannah Herzsprung, aHJohanna Wokalek, Daniel Brühl and Moritz Bleibtreu. Mikkel Boe Følsgaard, who could also be seen in the German co-production A ROYAL AFFAIR by Nikolaj Arcel (DK/SE/CZ/DE, Zentropa Entertainment), was selected as the Danish SHOOTING STAR.
The members of this year's SHOOTING STARS jury were the German producer Bettina Brokemper --at TIFF 2012 and the Goethe-Institut Toronto with Margarethe von Trotta's HANNAH ARENDT--, the Italian actress and former SHOOTING STAR Alba Rohrwacher, the Bosnian director Jasmila Žbanić, the UK casting director Jina Jay and the French film journalist Thierry Chèze.
The SHOOTING STARS programme is supported by the MEDIA Programme of the EU as well as the participating EFP member organisations and other cooperation partners.
German Films is a founding member of European Film Promotion (EFP), which is organising the selection and presentation of the SHOOTING STARS for the 16th time.
