Remember the fun of #BerlinaleBingo 2019, when the world was right(er)? I am revisiting the games for this (for me virtual market edition) Berlinale 2022, kicking us off on day 2 with a few hits:
☆ Yes to "films by women" (if not enough) and especially
female German directors: Nicolette Krebitz with "AEIOU", Isabelle Stever with "Grand Jeté"; Annika Pinske with "Talking About The Weather" (reviews to follow) and Maggie Peren with "The Forger", to name the most prominent. The EFM (European Film Market) schedule has a very convenient "Interests" filter, which lists 200 market offerings with a focus on "women in film".
☆ No Berlinale without Tilda Swinton (if not in person): In "The Storms Of Jeremy Thomas" (at the market, not the Berlinale proper), British filmmaker Mark Cousins (he of the mammoth "The Story Of Film: An Odyssey" on my living room shelf) accompanies legendary producer Thomas on the latter’s annual pilgrimage to the Cannes Film Festival, including an interview with Swinton.
☆ Alas also checking the tech issue box -- at the physical opening with Ozon's Fassbinder revamp "Peter von Kant". My EFM virtual cinema is working swimmingly, including a very convenient, time-zone-adapting calendar with reminders.
More bingo in the second half of the festival!
