I can't go to bed without mentioning these two (non-German but Germany-referenced) films I also saw:
If I wasn't in love with this anarchic fighting city, I would be now after 2hrs of #London The Modern Babylon @TIFF_NET. The Herculean archival and visual project of presenting a century of massive change succeeds with brilliant not-all-linear editing. Don't expect in-depth historical analysis but individual witness narrative. A bird's eye "People on Sunday". And in the middle, I am reminded of watching German children struggling in the aftermath of WWII in #Lore this morning. Here, we see the evacuation of London's children during the disastrous Blitz. War is stupid, as Boy George correctly noted, especially for children.
Only celebrity sighting that actually makes my heart race: Slovenian philosopher King #Slavoj Žižek standing outside the Bader.#tiffcelebs. Bit proud of #Toronto that Žižek fills a cinema here (some might also be here for director #SophieFiennes). #tiff12spotted
#Žižek the performer doesn't disappoint: opens with Lenin-Stalin-Hitler joke, introduces the Pervert Guide to Ideology (not entirely incorrectly) as a "good old-fashioned piece of communist propaganda", then goes on to tackle Beethoven, Marx, Benjamin, Riefenstahl, Sound of Music, Rammstein and Kinder surprise eggs (which I will never be able to appreciate in the same way, thank you very much). The most 'enjoyable' lecture I've ever sat through.
