EFP European Film Promotion announced the ten European up-and-coming actors who will be honoured as EUROPEAN SHOOTING STARS 2022. Germany will be represented by Emilio Sakraya in the 25th anniversary Shooting Stars edition. Previous German SHOOTING STARS include, amongst others, Albrecht Schuch, Jonas Dassler, Emma Drogunova, Franz Rogowski, Louis Hofmann, Jella Haase, Jannis Niewöhner, Daniel Brühl, Hannah Herzsprung, David Kross and Anna Maria Mühe.
Emilio Sakraya has shone in recent years thanks to his performances in films and series such as ELECTRO GHETTO, 4 BLOCKS, COLD FEET, WARRIOR NUN, THE SALVATION OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT and ONE NIGHT OFF.
In Fatih Akin's upcoming feature RHEINGOLD, Emilio plays the lead role, rapper Xatar.
“Emilio delivers a memorable performance that emphasizes his star quality and an immense potential as a lead actor,” the jury said of Sakraya's selection as a Shooting Star.
The following nine actors were selected alongside Sakraya: Evin Ahmad (Sweden), Clare Dunne (Ireland), Gracija Filipović (Croatia), João Nunes Monteiro (Portugal), Marie Reuther (Denmark), Timon Sturbej (Slovenia), Hanna van Vliet (The Netherlands), Anamaria Vartolomei (France), and Souheila Yacoub (Switzerland).
The 25th edition of EUROPEAN SHOOTING STARS will take place during this year’s 72nd Berlinale (10 – 20 February 2022). The actors will be presented to the international press, industry and the public in an exclusive program which offers a unique platform for the talent to meet journalists, casting directors, producers and filmmakers, offering the opportunity to create the personal contacts and network needed to launch an international career. The closing event and highlight will be the European Shooting Stars Awards Ceremony on Monday, 14 February 2022 at the Berlinale Palast.
German Films is a founding member of EFP (European Film Promotion) which has been organising the EUROPEAN SHOOTING STARS selection process and presentation for the 25th time this year. An international jury of experts, consisting of Swedish-Georgian filmmaker Levan Akin, casting director and president of the International Casting Director’s Network (ICDN) Timka Grin from Bosnia and Herzegovina, former Italian European Shooting Star Sara Serraiocco, Luxembourgish film producer Bernard Michaux and Germany-based film scholar and curator Yun-hua Chen selected the EUROPEAN SHOOTING STARS 2022 from candidates who had been nominated by European Film Promotion's member organisations, including German Films.
