Actopolis Lab Sarajevo opened on the 6th of June, 2016 at the Hastahana Skate Park in the center of Sarajevo. The mayor of the Centar Sarajevo municipality, Dževad Bećirević discussed the concept of the Actopolis project and its specific representations in different Actopolis cities. He was joined by the director of the Goethe-Institut in Bosnia-and-Herzegovina, Charlotte Hermelink, the Actopolis project art director, Angelika Fitz, and the curator of Actopolis LAB Sarajevo, Danijela Dugandžić.
The group talked about the nature of public space and its importance in building sociability in cities. They also raised questions about the past, present, and future of Sarajevo and cities in general. At the opening, the speakers addressed citizen’s visions for the city and conflicting urban narratives. Lastly, the curator and project creators introduced the three projects initiated by Actopolis Sarajevo Lab: Sarajevo Album, Green Pavilion, and Sarajevo Cloud. As a part of the program, the public was able to contribute to the Sarajevo Album project, participate in the children’s workshop “The City as a Puzzle”, and test the Sarajevo Cloud App. They were also invited to explore the Green Pavilion and Sarajevo Cloud installation, and enjoy the music of DJ Elle.M.
