“Yollarda/On the Road” was a cooperative project carried out by a professional team that paid close attention to even the tiniest details. For this reason, I would like to congratulate the Goethe-Institute of Istanbul and thank it from the bottom of my heart.
What else could I add? From my personal point of view, this project was extremely important because thanks to it I was able to find out at first hand that Turkey has made a huge step toward openness both internally and externally.
I witnessed how attentively the readers in our audiences listened not only to their own authors but also to writers from abroad. I also realised that in Turkey poems, and even completely unknown poets, are greatly valued, for I came to understand that in this country poets have been regarded as prophets for thousands of years, and that for this reason the Turks have internalised the idea that they must listen to the poets’ thoughts and words. In my opinion, this is one of the reasons why in places like Trabzon in particular, the young people are growing up to be modern human beings. I saw for myself how sensitive Turkish institutions and media - and even the business community - were to cultural problems. I am convinced that the Turks are moving towards a spiritual and intellectual peak.
The “Yollarda/On the Road” project has made a particularly necessary and important contribution to this. We can find out more about our neighbours only through personal encounters, not through indirect means. That’s why I would be happy if many more such projects could be arranged.

Йоларда бе проект на взаимност, реализиран от високи професионалисти с отношение дори към детайла. В този смисъл хвала и признателност на „Гьоте Институт”. Какво бих добавила: За мен проектът бе особено важен, защото благодарение на него проумях, че Турция е извървяла един сериозен път към себе си и към света. Видях, че четящата им публика е с отношение не само към своите, но и към чуждите автори. Нещо повече – точно в Турция чух, че поезията се радва на много почитатели, дори съвсем неизвестни автори, защото от хилядолетия им внушават, че поетите са пророци и те трябва да чуят как мислят и какво казват пророците. Това за мен е една от причините да се изграждат като модерни хора, каквито ги видях в Трабзон, особено младите.
Лично се срещнах с отношението на турските институции и медии, та дори и на бизнеса, към проблемите на културата. Останах с твърдото убеждение, че турците вървят към своето духовно израстване, за което допринесе и така необходимият и важен проект Йоларда.
Бих се радвала, ако се правят повече такива проекти, за да научим много повече за съседите си от жива среща с тях, отколкото по всякакъв друг начин.
