Nós Brasil! We Brazil! newspaper
Posted on Freitag, 18. Oktober 2013

The first issue of the Weltstadt newspaper deals with Nós Brasil! We Brazil!, a project that aims at further understanding the specific reality of contemporary Brazilian cities, as well as the challenges they face. It explores how new groups and organizations take initiative in a context where classic urban planning is increasingly supplemented, infiltrated, or even partially replaced by new players and processes. The asserted emergence of a so-called "new middle class" in Brazil, the intense social and economic transformations over the last decade and the clash of the global finance with local infrastructure raise various issues: who are the new actors making the city today? How will Brazilian cities and the citizens respond to these changes? How will Brazil's cities look like in the future?
The paper is split into four issues, covering the four project sites and themes: Curitiba (The Future of the Smart City), Porto Alegre (The Future of Participatory Budgeting), Salvador (The Future of Urban Activism) and São Paulo (The New Middle Class).
