I spent my last weekend at the American University (AUC), attending the second annual TEDxCairo. This year’s theme was “Resurrection”. The poster tells us that the x signifies an ‘independently organised event’ – but what is TED?
Following the Jan 25th revolution and the explosion of civil society initiatives and social activism, I have taken a personal interest in improving the information availability and transparency in the market regarding operational NGOs and initiatives. To this end, this blog post is the first of a series of posts shedding light on successful existing initiatives and NGOs that you may opt to join rather than re-invent the wheel whenever possible.

In post-revolution Egypt, many voices are loudly and laudably calling for the promotion and consumption of local merchandise. Among the plethora of initiatives you may have come across, there is one named “Going Local – إشتري المصري”. This group started back in early 2009 as the brainchild of a group of Egyptians living across the globe, unified by the blogosphere.
