First of all, the picture that shows the mood not only in Saratoga, but probably all around the country:
Now back to the conference: 30 years ago, the ‚Ethnic Services Round Table‘ was founded within the New York Library Association (NYLA). (The NYLA itself has existed since 1890!). In the intervening years the Round Table has organized more than 30 programs on services for multicultural and ethnic communities in the state of New York.
In 2007, the Ethnic Services Round Table organized the first ‘Diversity Fair’, and it was such a big success that the program was repeated again this year. On ten tables– similar to a poster session – different programs and activities were presented that targeted specific audiences. This one-hour fair featured a new and aromatic idea: tea from all over the world was served as a reflection of diversity. The Goethe-Institut’s stand at this year’s Diversity Fair -- our first -- brought such positive results that we will definitely be back next year. And I already plan to make a contribution to the teas of the world, with the only typical German example I am aware of, East Frisian tea!
