About the project
Librarian in Residence – a blog of the Goethe-Institut New York library
The blog started in June 2008 when the first Librarian in Residence arrived, whom the Goethe-Institut New York had invited for a fellowship at the Queens Library in the context of ‘Multicultural Library Work’. Bernd Merker from the Leipzig City Library and Petra Meier-Ehlers from the Hamburg Book Halls (public library), who came to New York six months later, blogged about their experiences and endeavors before, during and after their respective stays in New York.
The blog proved to be such a success that after the two guests had left, Brigitte Döllgast, the director of the library of the Goethe-Institut New York, continues to blog about a broader range of topics. We decided to keep the title but - beside entries regarding multicultural library services – cover impressions and insights from the library scene in in the United States and Germany.
