This topic has really grabbed me, so here are two additional items:
The Börsenblatt des Deutschen Buchhandels reports that in China, “sales of e-books, apps and other media downloads (rose) approximately 60% last year to 9.3 billion euros (in 2008 sales were 5.8 billion euros).”
In another announcement, it was predicted that by 2015 in Germany, e-media will make up 6.3% of all sales. At this point, however, things aren’t looking that good. Experts anticipate sales of only 20 million euros for e-books (fiction only) in the current year. The reason for this, admittedly, is not only that Germans are (as yet) not so much interested in e-books, but also the current lack of offerings by publishing houses. In addition, e-books, subject in Germany to price control, cost only 5 – 15% less than the printed version.
