About the project
On my flights from New York to Germany, I’ve landed a few times at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport. But these stopovers will be made even more pleasant in the future, for it is at Schiphol that the first airport library in the world will open. (I discovered news of this on the bibliothekarisch.de blog). The library will not only offer books, but films and music for download as well. And iPads will be available. A true calling card.
The library is available only to travelers, as it is located on the far side of passport control. And books, unfortunately, can’t be borrowed. At least not yet. Perhaps other countries will pick up the idea and at some point develop an international network of airport libraries. Then stranded flyers at least would have a larger choice than the often quite superficial choices found in airport bookstores.
