
Starting in the 1980’s, the Taiwanese documentary film-maker Ke Chin-yuan has been recording Taiwan’s natural environment and the catastrophes connected with it in film. He was born in 1962 in the district of Shengang near Changhua, and grew up in one of Taiwan’s peripheral regions. He therefore had no difficulty “choosing a life path that was completely different from those of other classmates who were also active in journalism.” In field studies, camera in hand, he continually documented Taiwan’s natural environment, changes in the environment and consequently the disasters bound up with them.
