Fashion-Blog - About us
We define ourselves by clothes. Clothes can have a segregating effect as well as they can convey a sense of common bond. Nowhere else this is as evident as in the Emirate Dubai. Dubai is a place with a unique ethnic composition. Here you live amongst a blend of a wide variety of cultures. Apart from the Emiratis you meet an international community including people from all over the world.
Diverse international influences bring about a change that is also clearly noticeable in the Emiratis’ attire. Both the abaya and the kandura, the traditional dresses of the Emiratis, have been increasingly re-interpreted by young local designers. There seem to be no limits: one has opened up to diversity. And with the addition of the traditional customs of all the other residents a potpourri of colours, shapes, and fabrics has been emerging.
This diversity is reflected in the passers-by’s clothing, captured on camera by female students of Zayed University Dubai and the participants of the course of the Goethe-Institut Deutsches Sprachzentrum Dubai on the occasion of the Berlin-Dubai Festival. For Dubai and Berlin have much in common based on their multicultural background that needs yet to be explored in detail during the festival. Just like Berlin, Dubai has the reputation of a trendy city with fashion-conscious people. With their fashion statements our models reveal how this international flair gets reflected in fashion. We have made a compilation of the most beautiful, most interesting, and the most bizarre ones for you.
