Does Ms. Müller's U.S. tour extend west of Chicago? I've searched for a complete listing of tour stops, but have found nothing on the Internet.

A lot of colleges and universities have a "Deutsches Haus" as a meeting place for their local German communities. They have a slew of cultural events and activities year round - definitely worth checking out!

Since Nick Bostrom had only just been born when "Welt am Draht" appeared, I don't think his "Simulation Argument" was much of an influence on Fassbinder--but similar arguments go back hundreds if not thousands of years.

    1. That's the million dollar question. The Kindle does not work with our system. And because of an ongoing dispute between Apple and Adobe, the iPad will only display eBooks in the EPUB format (about half of our titles). I have not personally tested one, but have heard good feedback about Sony Readers. There's a list of Adobe supported devices here: http://blogs.adobe.com/digitalpublishing/supported-devices

2. Ebooks are borrowed. Technically our Library does not own them, but only licenses the right to lend them. Brave new world...

3. At the moment our selection is definitely skewed towards more modern titles, largely because many of the classics simply aren't available yet as eBooks.

Good to hear about German ebooks! A couple questions:
1.what is the best product to access them easily --ipad, kindle, etc?
2. would they be borrowed or purchased?
3. would the selection also include less than classic novels --eg, more current, popular, and easier to read ones? Thanks.

Fascinated by the themes of "Visitation" (Erpenbeck)and "Blindness of the Heart" (Franck). No one does cultural memory more poignantly, as far as I am concerned, than contemporary German writers. It would be lovely to have these translations as audiobooks.
