"I'm off then", was all Hape Kerkeling told his friends before leaving for a 500 mile trek along the ancient Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route. Germany's most successful comedian lost and found himself on that hike and his diary, Ich bin dann mal weg: meine Reise auf dem Jakobsweg (Malik, 2006), became the best selling German book in many years, inspiring thousands to follow in his footsteps. I'm Off Then: Losing and Finding Myself on the Camino de Santiago (Free Press, 2009) is now available in an English translation by Shelley Frisch, and Hape Kerkeling will introduce the book at a reading illustrated with the epic slides of German travel photographer Roland Marske. Meet the author at a reception after the reading at Deutsches Haus at NYU (42 Washington Mews, New York, NY 10003).

For those of you outside of New York City, readings will also be held at Temple University in Philadelphia on Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009 at 7pm, as well as in the Carl Schurz Auditorium of the German Embassy in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, September 3rd, 2009 at 7pm.
