From January through December 2011, these were the parameters for a playground of diverse, fascinating, vibrant tales: Responding individually to a collective impetus, a host of hand-picked young bloggers uploaded photos, texts, and multimedia. Every month, they were given a new theme. Step by step, they created a kaleidoscope of impressions, opinions, ideas and… plain fun.

Integration in Ha Noi: A brighter color?

How could the street vendor who sell ice teas near my office recently buy a house in this expensive city? Selling 1000 cups of tea per day? Wining a lottery? No. She just sold teas for a very very long time. And then bought a house.

Hanoi and Integration.

Wedding in the past was a typical feature of Vietnamese tradition. The traditional wedding itself was a connection among generations of Hanoians as people would find the things familiar that they experienced in their weddings. But now, the awareness about marriage ceremony is changing when people get influenced by Internet, Western culture when they go to study abroad or contact with western people go on tour or live in Vietnam, etc.

A wedding with the bride and groom dressed in Western style and a mini gambling- house organized for the wedding participants.

Hanoi: Immigrants - same, same?

It's always the same problem with immigrants: they prefer to live in their own neighborhoods. Even after several years in a foreign country their language skills are still so poor that they can not even read official letters. They prefer to buy the same food they eat at home in their small, foreign shops. And even after many years they have few friends among the locals.

Ha Noi: Tube it?

A house in the Old Quarter of Ha Noi.
The first floor is modernized into a tube shape,
but the second one is remained in an old style


My grandfather has a 200- year-old house in the Old Quarter of Ha Noi. The house burned 50 years ago. But luckily for us, just one small part of it was damaged. That house is one of hundreds of old houses in the city struggling to survive through many upheavals.

Hanoi: Flourescent light and French-built villas

Hanoi does not have many high-rises. I am very thankful for this. Of course this is a little hypocritical of me, since I live in a high-rise. From the eleventh floor I have a clear view of the city center of Hanoi. A beautiful view, because there are few other high-rises. Street vendors – Hanoi’s character

In Hanoi, life seems so convenient. No matter where you are in Hanoi, you can easily get anything you need from the street vendors. These vendors coming from Hanoi’s suburb and other provinces to earn their living; They can make money by carrying a “quang ganh” (two baskets slung from each end of a wooden or bamboo pole), riding a bicycle or staying at a street’s corner

A family sells things on street and they live on the Red River in Hanoi.

It is not difficult to structure your year in Hanoi.

You can base it on the seasons. Because, yes, Hanoi has seasons. Four of them. They give shape to the year, which is very practical.
