Singapore style is dictated mostly by the high temperature and humidity.
While it is true in the big city that there seems to be an international autonomy of style brought about by big brands and the power of the media and celebrities, the practicality of Singaporeans normally wins out. Without seasons, you will rarely see people with scarves and leather jackets, though I have seen one on my travels. Slippers, shorts, tees or tank tops are the mainstay for the warm days, that are the norm here.
Beyond luxury brands, the youth here generally have a pretty clean cut style. Neat lines, stripes and solid colours win out and there does not seem to be the diversity of styles that one sees in other countries. Generally Singaporeans are not averse to wearing bright colours, unlike Melbourne where everyone seems to be wearing shades of black, white and grey. As for myself, I like muted tones and you will often see me in a tee, shorts and flip-flops. It’s a comfort I can’t seem to live without.
