Stranger in a strange land
by Jessica Tapp.
This month's theme Going local - city, kiez, suburb really made me think about how I relate to my (new) neighbourhood.
I don't have just one though. I move back and forth between my new home in the city's inner west, my parents' home in the south, my boyfriend's place in Sydney's south-west and everything in between.

Home of journalism
by Lan Phương
There is a story through word of mouth like this: There was a rich capitalist living in Hanoi traveled to Saigon. After the trip, he returned home, sold all properties and moved to Saigon. Someone asked him, he just simply answered: in Saigon, even a rickshaw puller also reads newspapers.
That’s just a very old and funny story. But it reflects almost about the city that I have been choosing for my career: Saigon - the capital of journalism in Vietnam.

Auckland CBD - Non-place or does fluidity provide its form?
Marco Polo’s tales in Calvino’s Invisible Cities spring to mind in regard to my neighbourhood. The explorer spins stories to Kublai Khan of cities he has encountered.

You Are What You Eat in Jakarta
“Going Local - Neighbourhood, Kiez and Suburb in my city”
Do I take advantage of what my city offers? Or am I rather a local who only sometimes ventures out of his suburb? Is my city really just an agglomeration of villages? And maythis turn out to be an advantage for our citizens?
Another month, another game. What's the best way to answer the questions above other than using our stomach (look at other previous entries by other contributors of this very blog for confirmation)? Click to devour this gastronomical endeavor I'm offering you. Continue reading "You Are What You Eat in Jakarta" »

Singapore: The Republic of Nothing to Do?
"There's nothing to do in Singapore but shop, eat or watch a movie," is the common refrain.
Well, that's simply not true.

Consumerist in my Neighborhoods – Auckland

Mt Roskill 6.6km
For the city of Auckland it’s not very friendly to the feet. Many hills, well actually old volcanoes, over fifty sprawl through the suburbs of Auckland. Other cities overseas have often been a lot easy for commuting be it by foot, bicycle or public transport. Continue reading "Consumerist in my Neighborhoods – Auckland" »
