“Built up – Heritage and International Style in my City”
We may be proud of our historic city centres, of monuments from the past. And yet, we see an ever more identical international style of architecture mushrooming everywhere. We may also chose convenience over heritage when we choose our own urban abode. Where is all this leading and how does it transform our way of life?
There is something different in my entry for this month. Instead of my usual picking of three contestants, we are having eleven. Yes. Eleven.

Rooms of Superhero(+in)es of Jakarta
In my effort to answer those opening questions on the city's built environment, I decided to turn to the best candidates for their opinions: our future builders—architecture students.
I'm fortunate enough to be invited to give a workshop on ‘Mix Media’, to a group of fresh(+wo)men in my alma mater, University of Indonesia. It's the biggest state university in the country, and takes great responsibility for what's going up (or down, or sideways) in this city (both as architects of those projects, or as the policy-makers who permit them.) Their answers and my assignment, serve as a portrayal of the possible future. More of a speculation than a definite answer.
I gave them this problem to solve for the workshop assignment:
Imagine yourself as a superhero, what kind of room would you have? It can be an existing superhero, or your own made-up character. Explain your choice of character and her/his peculiarities. Explore them further. Treating your existing room as a given, what would you change & what would you keep? Communicate your imagination using three or more of any kind of media you deem appropriate for your idea.
Not stopping there, I added up some spices to it (in order to render this as an entry for this blog-series!):
Give us your best effort! There are going to be three winners, each will be given Rp5ook. This is indeed a competition!
Now, my dearest readers, I need your help for this entry to come full circle: I need you to VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE work by jotting each of your individual choices in the comments section!
To make up your mind, you can WATCH the short video below which has all their 11 results in it, or you can READ further to browse all of the 11 entries in details. No matter which way you choose, the winning students faith is IN YOUR HAND! Please HELP YOUR FAVORITE work to win!
Having seen this, do you think we'll become more of Conservationists, Avant-Gardists, or neither?
(Votes will be counted in the end of this month, so it gives you a little more than two weeks to participate. Please inform your friends, colleagues, and acquaintances to contribute to this little game! I thank you in advance for your support and willingness to participate.)
UPDATE (June 2nd, 2011): Voting period has come to an end. The winners are:

2. #1—The Burning Fire, by Amira Paramitha, 4 votes

But, the main reason I'm giving these students this superhero assignment (which can totally be their own fabrication), is so that they could set their imagination free. Free, in order for them to realize that what education supply them are simulations. It can not, and should not, be mistaken with reality. Treat it with brutal honesty, and hopefully we will not mistaken one with the other.
So, both of you are entitled to give each of your favorite pieces a thumbs-up. I'm grateful for that.
Keep the discussion going.
.... beloved room
Reason: I like the irregular/angular setup of the walls. It reminds me German artist Kurt Schwitters' Märzbau.

Furthermore, I can identify with the superhero's notion of having a simple room to recharge his energy. The fact that it's undetectable from Galactus is probably also helpful.
