Roland Quitt is the dramaturge and text author for the first two parts of the Amazonas music theater performance. He defines “music theater” as follows: The equal mixture of the arts, such as Richard Wagner proclaimed in his idea of the total artwork. Music theater is multi-medial. But the mixture no longer serves a unitary illusion. The equality of the arts remains, but the parts have now become autonomous levels. The various media generate disturbances. The text says something different from the image, the music frequently something different from the text. The viewer and listener must himself compose the structure (how these levels are related) in his head. In this way, music theater is a continuation of the idea of the total artwork.
